9. Teachers are able to evaluate themselves.
The teacher is a reflective practitioner who continually evaluates the effects of his or her choices and actions on pupils, parents, professionals in the learning community and others and who actively seeks out opportunities to grow professionally.

Rationale 9: As part of my action research entitled, The Effects of Computerized Assessment on Student Achievement, I consulted and reviewed numerous sources on assement methods. I had read a great deal of professional literature that provided me with insight to the benefits and downfalls of different assement types that had been acquired through research.

Reviewing professional literature for this project was extremely important to my personal growth as a teacher. I went into this project with my own experiences and ideas of assessing students. Reading about what others had found through their own research provided me with new perspectives and helped open my mind to exploring new ways of thinking about assessment. This will help me to have a better understanding of what my students are truly learning so that I can guide my instruction accordingly.

Assessment is an important part of the education process. As education evolves and changes, so do means of assessing learning. There is much professional literature on assessing students that an effective teacher can consult. The literature that is available is quite current and provides may different perspectives.

9.S.3.: The teacher seeks out professional literature, and other resources to support his/her own development as a learner and a teacher.

Finding professional literature on assessment was an enlightening task. I referenced 7 different sources as part of my focused research. Aside from those I found many other sources that provided research information about different types of assessments and different ideas on the effectiveness of them. I have been able to use that information to change some of my own classroom assessment procedures.

9.D.4.: The teacher is committed to seeking out, developing, and continually refining practices that address the individual needs of the students.

The information that I obtained through the review of literature on assessment has helped me to make adjustments to the way that I assess the students in my classroom. Specifically, I am now open to allowing students to take assessments on the computer instead of on paper. I will continue to consult literature sources on assessment. The more information that I have, the more effective my assessments will be.
